Virtual Worship March 29th

Virtual Worship

March 29th, 2020

Welcome!

While we can not gather in person we can still worship as a faith community.   Please leave comments and join in the conversation on our Facebook page.

We are here to accomplish our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We are here to live into our vision of  sharing God’s love to transform communities and change lives.

We are here to worship God.

March Focus Scripture:  “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”  1 Corinthians 1:18

Announcements

  1.   Every week day at 11:00 AM we are going to have a morning prayer broadcast via Facebook live.  We invite you to join us for that, and then connect with one another in the comments.
  2.  The Wednesday night Bible study will resume this week using a digital format.  The bible study will take place via Zoom call.  For information on how to be part of the bible study go here.
  3.  We celebrate that at the free meal yesterday we provided over 120 meal.

Prayer

There are a few prayer concerns to share this morning.  We have been asked to pray for Chuck Collins, the son in law of Sylvester and Doris, as he is having eye surgery tomorrow.   We also need to lift up Bill Tolson in our prayers. He fell and broke several ribs.   Finally, tomorrow we are going to be providing food bags for students over Spring break.  Please pray that all of the kids in our community who might be facing food insecurity will be able to get food during this time.   Prepare your heart and mind in an attitude as we approach the throne of God in prayer:

The Lord’s Prayer:  Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

Worship Through Giving

Clyde Flory, our worship leader, offers us these words from Life Principles Bible by Charles Stanley:

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation.”

There is not a plate to pass, but we encourage you to make use of our online giving page or make your tithes and offerings through a different format.

Children’s Message

If you have children around who have not been participating so for, we encourage you to now share this video with them.   Alternatively, if the children in your life are not physically with you right now, then we encourage you to share this with them through digital means:

We also have a coloring page for kids provided for free from Illustrated Ministry.   We would love to see your beautiful works of art!   You can print it out, color it, and then have your  parents share a picture of your work with Pastor Sean.  He will then take the best ones and share them with everyone on the church Facebook page.  You can find the coloring sheet here.

Scripture Reading

We encourage you to read this morning’s scripture.  If you do not have a bible available, then please consider reading it in one of the following translations you are most comfortable with:

John 11:17-44 (NIV)

John 11:17-44 (NRSV)

John 11:17-44 (KJV)

Benediction

It has become our tradition to hold hands at the end of the service.   Since we can not do that, I encourage you at some point today to reach out and connect with someone.

May you know that you are loved by God the Father

May you know that Jesus understands you and is with you

Being filled with the Holy Spirit, may you have empathy and show the love of God to someone else this week.

May you live in peace.  Amen.

Thank you for this message. While I easily empathize with the characters of Hallmark movies, I find that I often do not take enough time to empathize with the real people, with real issues, and real suffering around me. Some of this is due to God’s ability to see deep into people’s lives. May the Lord open my eyes and my heart to see what He sees.
From the words of Brandon Heath’s song – Give me your eyes:
Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see,
    Everything that I keep missing,
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me Your eyes so I can see

I think you are right Pastor Sean when you said Jesus cried because the other people where crying. Jesus is the ultimate reality in connection with people.

  3. Sandi

Well, Sean, you made me cry with the puppy story!
I’m so glad to have a Savior that knows what I’m feeling and not just so deity watching from a distance.

  4. Cheryl Allen

I tried watching at 1:00, but I think my WiFi was messed up, it wouldn’t load , same thing with my phone. Hope to watch later.
